Mission, Vision, and Objectives

Mission: To protect, promote, and advance human rights in the Dominican Republic by providing legal assistance, advocacy, and education to vulnerable populations, particularly focusing on migrants, victims of police brutality, and women’s rights.

Vision: A Dominican Republic where every individual enjoys their fundamental human rights and freedoms, free from discrimination, violence, and abuse, and where justice and equality prevail for all.

Objectives:

  1. Provide Legal Assistance:
    • Offer free legal aid to victims of human rights violations, particularly focusing on migrants, victims of police brutality, and women facing discrimination or violence.
    • Assist asylum seekers and refugees in navigating the legal process to ensure their protection under international and national laws.
  2. Advocate for Policy Change:
    • Lobby for legislative reforms that enhance the protection of human rights in the Dominican Republic.
    • Work with policymakers to develop and implement policies that safeguard the rights of vulnerable populations, such as migrants and women.
  3. Raise Public Awareness:
    • Conduct public awareness campaigns to educate the community about human rights issues and the importance of protecting these rights.
    • Organize workshops, seminars, and community meetings to inform the public about their rights and how to assert them.
  4. Monitor and Document Human Rights Violations:
    • Establish a monitoring system to document cases of human rights violations, including police brutality, discrimination against migrants, and gender-based violence.
    • Publish regular reports and analysis on the state of human rights in the Dominican Republic to inform national and international stakeholders.
  5. Build Community Support Networks:
    • Create support groups for victims of human rights abuses to provide emotional, psychological, and practical assistance.

Specific Human Rights Issues Focus:

  1. Migrants’ Rights:
    • Address the legal and humanitarian needs of Haitian migrants and other vulnerable migrant populations.
    • Advocate against unjust deportations and ensure that migrants’ rights are respected in accordance with international law.
  2. Police Brutality:
    • Monitor and report incidents of police brutality and misconduct.
    • Provide legal representation and support to victims of police abuse, and advocate for accountability and reform within law enforcement agencies.
  3. Women’s Rights:
    • Focus on combating gender-based violence and discrimination.
    • Promote women’s rights through legal aid, education, and advocacy, ensuring women have access to justice and equal opportunities.
